The main active options are limited to new FortisBC gas connections, appliance maintenance, income-qualified heat-pump conversions and specific commercial or institutional projects. Furnace and Boiler Rebate Summary
Available incentives depend on the existing heating fuel, utility account, household income, equipment type and whether the project is residential or commercial.
A standard replacement of an existing natural-gas furnace with another gas furnace does not currently have a general residential rebate. Larger incentives are mainly tied to a new gas connection, an income-qualified heat-pump conversion or an eligible commercial project.
Are Furnace and Boiler Rebates Available in BC?

Yes, but most homeowners cannot receive a rebate simply for removing an older natural-gas furnace and installing another natural-gas furnace.
As of July 26, 2026, FortisBC’s public residential offers do not list a general equipment-replacement rebate for an existing gas customer replacing a standard gas furnace or boiler with another gas model. The principal residential equipment rebates are currently tied to connecting an existing oil- or propane-heated home to natural gas. Existing gas customers can still access a smaller maintenance rebate.
Homeowners considering a larger incentive may need to compare a gas replacement with an eligible electric heat-pump conversion through CleanBC Better Homes.
Available Rebates and Incentives in BC
Available Rebates
FortisBC Connect to Gas Furnace and Boiler Rebate
The FortisBC Connect to Gas program is intended for existing homes that are obtaining a new FortisBC natural-gas service and converting their primary space-heating system from oil or propane.
Current maximum incentives include:

To receive the additional $1,000 bonus, the applicant must obtain a pre-qualification code before December 31, 2026 and before installing the equipment. Available codes may be exhausted before that date.
The work must be completed with a paid invoice dated before March 31, 2027. The final application must generally be submitted within 90 days of the paid invoice date or by June 30, 2027, whichever occurs first.
Main Connect to Gas Requirements
The applicant must generally:
Own or occupy an existing home rather than an ordinary new-construction project.
Request a new FortisBC gas service line.
Enter a gas-service agreement with FortisBC.
Replace oil or propane as the home’s primary space-heating fuel.
Install eligible equipment.
Use a gas contractor licensed with Technical Safety BC.
Obtain the required permit.
Keep a paid invoice showing the equipment model and contractor information.
Apply within the applicable deadline.
Existing FortisBC gas customers replacing an existing gas furnace or boiler do not qualify through this new-connection program.
Eligible Furnace and Boiler Efficiency
A qualifying natural-gas furnace must generally be:
ENERGY STAR certified under the applicable standard
Rated at least 95% AFUE
Installed with a two-pipe direct-vent system
Equipped with an eligible variable-volume ECM or X-13 motor where applicable
Listed with Natural Resources Canada or on the applicable FortisBC list
An eligible natural-gas boiler must generally be ENERGY STAR certified and rated at least 94% AFUE. Combination boiler systems used for both space heating and domestic hot water must also meet the applicable 94% AFUE requirement.
Equipment eligibility must be checked using the exact manufacturer and model number before purchase.
Natural-Gas Wall Furnace Rebate
New FortisBC gas customers installing an eligible direct-vent wall furnace may receive:
A base rebate of $1,000
A temporary bonus of $200
A potential total of $1,200
The applicant must receive a pre-qualification code before December 31, 2026 to receive the bonus. The furnace must be installed in an existing home by a contractor licensed with Technical Safety BC.
This program is not available for ordinary new construction or for an existing gas customer replacing a wall furnace without establishing a qualifying new service.
Furnace and Boiler Maintenance Rebate
Existing residential FortisBC gas customers may receive a $50 rebate when an eligible furnace or boiler is serviced by a licensed gas contractor.
The program allows a maximum of one furnace or boiler service rebate per household. A household may receive up to $150 in total maintenance rebates when combining eligible furnace or boiler service with a tankless water-heater service and up to two fireplace services.
The maintenance application must generally be submitted within 60 days of the service invoice date.
This is a maintenance incentive rather than financial support for purchasing a replacement furnace or boiler.
CleanBC Rebates for Replacing a Furnace or Boiler With a Heat Pump
CleanBC does not currently provide a broad residential rebate for replacing an existing natural-gas furnace with another gas furnace. Larger provincial incentives are directed primarily toward eligible heat-pump conversions.
Income-qualified households replacing natural gas, propane or oil heating may receive up to:

Homes converting from a fossil-fuel furnace or boiler must generally remove the primary fossil-fuel heating equipment. A registered Energy Savings Program contractor must purchase, supply and install the new system.
Pre-registration and an eligibility code are required before work begins. For applications received on or after July 6, 2026, the eligibility code is generally valid for upgrades completed within three months of approval.
Electric-Service and Health-and-Safety Add-Ons
Some income-qualified heat-pump conversions may also receive additional assistance for:
Electrical-service upgrades
Ventilation work
Eligible health-and-safety remediation
These add-ons are not standalone furnace rebates. They apply only when the related primary upgrade and program requirements are satisfied.

Commercial and Industrial Boiler Rebates
Commercial and industrial buildings follow different programs from detached residential homes.
FortisBC Industrial Gas Boiler Rebate
Eligible FortisBC gas customers may receive $9 per MBH, up to $45,000 per installation, for an eligible high-efficiency gas boiler.
This program is limited to boilers used for qualifying industrial process-heating needs, including some food-processing and greenhouse applications.
Boilers used only for the following are not eligible under this specific offer:
Ordinary building space heating
Domestic hot water
Pool heating
Backup or standby service
Secondary boiler capacity
The new boiler must generally have thermal efficiency of at least 90% and be listed through ENERGY STAR, AHRI or the applicable FortisBC qualifying tables.
Gas Absorption Heat-Pump Rebates
Eligible commercial, institutional and multi-unit residential buildings may receive support for replacing a primary gas heating system with gas absorption heat-pump technology.
Current incentives include:
Up to 75% of eligible project costs
A maximum project rebate of $200,000
Up to $10,000 toward an approved feasibility study
The building must generally be served by a qualifying FortisBC gas account and have suitable outdoor or rooftop space for the equipment.
Commercial Boiler Controls and Optimization
Existing commercial or industrial buildings may also qualify for equipment-specific incentives rather than a full boiler-replacement rebate.
Examples include:
Outdoor-air reset controls: $335 per unit
Boiler tune-ups based on system capacity
Hydronic-system additives
Building automation and control measures
Heating-system optimization projects
Eligibility depends on the utility rate class, equipment use, invoice date and project type.
Non-Profit Furnace and Boiler Optimization
Eligible non-profit organizations may receive:
Boiler tune-up rebates of $1 per MBH, covering up to 75% of project cost
Furnace and rooftop-unit tune-up support covering 100% of project cost, up to $400
Other heating-system optimization incentives
The organization must meet FortisBC’s non-profit eligibility requirements and complete the specified technical scope.
Social-Housing Retrofit Support
Eligible housing providers and charities operating multi-unit residential buildings may access:
Up to $8,000 for an approved energy study
Up to $11,000 in implementation-support funding
Additional equipment and energy-conservation rebates
Projects require program approval and coordination with the appropriate utility key account manager before proceeding.
Is the Canada Greener Homes Loan Still Available?
No. Funding for the Canada Greener Homes Loan is fully committed, and new loan applications cannot be approved.
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is also closed. These programs should not be presented as current financing options for a new furnace or boiler project in 2026.
Homeowners should be cautious when older contractor pages or articles still describe the federal grant or interest-free loan as available.
Is a Standard Gas Furnace Replacement Eligible?
For most existing residential FortisBC gas customers, replacing an older gas furnace with another high-efficiency gas furnace does not currently qualify for a general equipment rebate.
The active residential opportunities are mainly:
A new Connect to Gas conversion from oil or propane
An eligible direct-vent wall furnace installed with a new gas connection
A $50 maintenance rebate
An income-qualified conversion from fossil-fuel heating to an electric heat pump
A high-efficiency furnace may still reduce fuel use compared with an older system, but expected operating savings should be evaluated separately from rebate eligibility.
Is an EnerGuide Evaluation Required?
An EnerGuide evaluation is not a universal requirement for the FortisBC Connect to Gas rebate, wall-furnace rebate or appliance-maintenance rebate.
It may be useful when:
The heating replacement is part of a wider home-energy renovation.
The homeowner is comparing a furnace replacement with a heat-pump conversion.
Insulation or airtightness improvements may reduce the required equipment capacity.
The project is pursuing an EnerGuide-based Home Energy Improvement Bonus.
The owner wants before-and-after energy-performance information.
The Home Energy Improvement Bonus can provide between $750 and $2,000 when the homeowner completes the required pre-upgrade evaluation, at least three eligible upgrades and a post-upgrade evaluation. A separate Two Upgrade Bonus of $300 may apply to qualifying projects without an EnerGuide evaluation.
Furnace and Boiler Sizing Requirements
A replacement furnace or boiler should not automatically use the same rated capacity as the existing equipment.
Older systems are often oversized, especially when a home has since received:
Additional insulation
New windows
Air-sealing improvements
Duct sealing
Building-envelope repairs
A professional heat-load calculation evaluates the building’s current heating demand and supports appropriate equipment selection.
Oversized equipment may cycle frequently and operate less efficiently. Undersized equipment may not maintain indoor temperatures during winter design conditions.
Furnace, Boiler or Heat Pump?
The right system depends on the existing distribution system and the owner’s long-term energy goals.
A furnace may be practical where the building already has suitable forced-air ductwork. A boiler may remain appropriate for a building with hydronic radiators, fan coils or radiant-floor heating.
A heat pump may provide a larger rebate and add cooling, but the project may require electrical upgrades or changes to the existing heat-distribution system.

Available rebates
Existing fuel and utility rates
Electrical capacity
Heating distribution
Cooling requirements
Equipment life expectancy
Greenhouse-gas objectives

How to Protect Your Rebate Eligibility
Confirm the Program Before Purchasing Equipment
Do not assume that a high AFUE rating automatically creates rebate eligibility. The customer type and existing heating fuel are often more important.
Obtain Pre-Qualification When Required
FortisBC Connect to Gas bonuses and wall-furnace bonuses require a pre-qualification code before installation.
Verify the Exact Model
Check the complete manufacturer and model number against the current qualifying list.
Use a Licensed Contractor
Gas work must be completed by a contractor licensed with Technical Safety BC. Heat-pump programs may require a contractor specifically registered for the applicable CleanBC program.
Keep Complete Documentation
The paid invoice should identify:
Installation address
Contractor and licence information
Permit number
Equipment manufacturer
Model number
Installation date
Equipment and labour costs

Meet the Application Deadline
Deadlines differ by program. Depending on the incentive, the deadline may be calculated from the pre-qualification date, paid invoice date, equipment purchase or installation date.
