Home Renovation Rebates in British Columbia (2026 Guide)
BEST REBATE & UPGRADE OPTIONS
🟢 Last reviewed: July 28, 2026
Eligible British Columbia households can receive rebates for energy-efficient heat pumps, insulation, windows, doors and heat pump water heaters. BC Hydro currently advertises up to $12,500 in combined Home Renovation Rebate Program incentives for qualifying electrically heated homes. Higher amounts may be available through income-qualified or northern programs.
The available program depends on the home’s primary heating fuel, utility provider, location, household income and property type. A homeowner should therefore identify the correct program before purchasing equipment or beginning work.

What Is the Home Renovation Rebate Program?
MONOLITH HOUSING SOLUTION
The Home Renovation Rebate Program supports energy-efficiency upgrades in eligible existing homes throughout British Columbia. It is delivered through a partnership involving BC Hydro, FortisBC and the Province of British Columbia.
Current standard rebate categories include:
Heat pumps
Insulation
Windows and doors
Heat pump water heaters
Multiple-upgrade bonuses
The standard program is available at any income level, but individual upgrades have separate fuel, utility, product and contractor requirements.
Current Home Renovation Rebate Amounts
Current incentives depend on the property type, utility provider, household income, existing heating fuel and the equipment or building upgrade being installed.

| Insulation | Up to $5,500 | Amount is calculated using the eligible insulated area and the R-value added. | Active |
| Windows and Doors | Up to $2,000 | Generally $100 per eligible Tier 2 window or door, subject to product requirements. | Active |

Available Rebates and in BC
Available Rebates
FortisBC
FortisBC provides Home Renovation Rebate Program incentives for eligible natural-gas and electricity customers.
Available upgrade categories may include:
Heat pumps and dual-fuel systems
Insulation
Windows and doors
Heat pump water heaters
Connected thermostats
Eligible gas equipment
Multiple-upgrade bonuses
Each upgrade has separate customer, fuel and equipment requirements. A FortisBC gas account alone does not make every listed rebate available.
Insulation
Eligible FortisBC customers may receive up to $5,500 for insulation.
The amount is calculated using the insulation area and R-value added. Work must be completed by an eligible insulation contractor.
Windows and Doors
Eligible windows and doors may receive $100 per unit, up to $2,000.
The products must meet current performance requirements and be installed in an eligible existing home.
Heat Pumps and Dual-Fuel Systems
FortisBC offers heat-pump incentives for eligible electricity customers and selected dual-fuel pathways for qualifying gas-heated homes.
The available amount depends on:
Existing heating fuel
New system configuration
Whether the system serves the whole home
Utility territory
Income-qualified status
The exact program should be confirmed before a contractor specifies the equipment.
Two Upgrade Bonus
A $300 Two Upgrade Bonus may apply when two bonus-eligible upgrades are completed within 18 months of each other.
An EnerGuide evaluation is not required for this $300 bonus. The bonus application must generally be submitted within six months of the invoice date for the second qualifying upgrade.
Home Energy Improvement Bonus
Some official program documentation still describes an EnerGuide-based Home Energy Improvement Bonus of between $750 and $2,000.
However, FortisBC’s current page states that eligible equipment and invoices for this bonus had to be dated on or before December 31, 2023. New 2026 projects should therefore not include this amount in their expected rebate total without written confirmation from the program administrator.
Federal Programs
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed.
Funding for the Canada Greener Homes Loan is fully committed, so new loan applications are not being approved.
These federal programs should not be presented as currently available funding for a new 2026 renovation project.
BC Hydro
BC Hydro administers the Home Renovation Rebate Program for eligible electrically heated homes.
The home must generally:
Be primarily heated by electricity
Have a residential BC Hydro or eligible municipal-utility account
Be a year-round primary residence
Be at least 12 months old
Be an eligible ground-oriented property
Use qualified products and contractors
The primary electric heating system must have enough capacity to heat at least 50% of the home throughout the heating season.
Heat-Pump Rebate
Eligible electrically heated homes may receive up to $4,000 for an approved air-source heat pump.
Heat-pump installations must be completed by a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network. Self-installations are not eligible.
Insulation Rebate
Eligible insulation projects may receive up to $5,500.
The payment is calculated according to:
Insulation location
Eligible square footage
R-value added
Maximum amount for each area
Insulation work must be completed by a qualified Home Performance Contractor Network member.
Window and Door Rebate
Eligible Tier 2 windows and doors can receive $100 per unit, up to $2,000 per home.
Products must satisfy the current U-factor requirement, and the paid invoice must identify the exact manufacturer and model information.
Heat Pump Water-Heater Rebate
An eligible heat pump water heater can receive up to $1,000.
The unit must replace an eligible primary water heater and satisfy the current product and installation requirements.
Condo and Apartment Programs
The standard ground-oriented Home Renovation Rebate Program does not apply to ordinary condo or apartment units.
BC Hydro instead offers a separate Condo and Apartment Rebate Program with:
Up to $2,250 for an eligible heat pump
$1,000 for an eligible heat pump water heater
Pre-approval is required before equipment is purchased or installed.
CleanBC Better Homes
CleanBC Better Homes provides information and support for the Home Renovation Rebate Program and administers the income-qualified Energy Savings Program.
Home Renovation Rebate Program
The standard Home Renovation Rebate Program is available to households at any income level.
For ground-oriented homes, current maximums include:
Up to $4,000 for an eligible heat pump
Up to $5,500 for insulation
Up to $2,000 for windows and doors
Up to $1,000 for a heat pump water heater
The exact offer depends on the primary heating system and utility account. Homes using electricity, natural gas, oil or propane may follow different program pathways.
Energy Savings Program
The CleanBC Energy Savings Program provides higher rebates based on household income.
Current maximums include:
Up to $13,000 for an eligible heat pump
Up to $3,500 for an eligible heat pump water heater
Additional support for qualifying insulation and window projects
Potential electrical-service, ventilation and health-and-safety add-ons
Applicants must pre-register and receive an eligibility code before work begins. Approved upgrades must be supplied and installed by an Energy Savings Program registered contractor.
Eligibility is based on:
Number of people in the household
Combined pre-tax household income
Assessed property value
Existing heating fuel
Property type
Utility account
An approved eligibility code can be used for multiple qualifying upgrades during its validity period.
Northern Heat-Pump Offers
Homes north of and including the District of 100 Mile House may qualify for enhanced fossil-fuel conversion incentives.
Current maximums include:
Up to $6,000 when replacing oil space heating
Up to $8,000 when replacing natural gas or propane space heating
Up to $1,000 when replacing eligible fossil-fuel water heating with a heat pump water heater
The home must be connected to BC Hydro, and the old fossil-fuel equipment must normally be removed or properly decommissioned.

General Home Eligibility Requirements
An eligible home must generally be:
A year-round primary residence
At least 12 months old
Connected to an eligible residential utility account
Individually metered
Primarily heated by an eligible energy source
Eligible property types can include detached houses, mobile homes on permanent foundations, duplexes, triplexes, row homes, townhouses and qualifying small multiplex units.
Ordinary condominiums, apartment buildings, garages, outbuildings, new construction and additions are generally excluded from the ground-oriented program. Separate multi-unit programs may apply.
Contractor Requirements
All upgrades must be installed by a licensed contractor with a GST number and a valid British Columbia business licence for the applicable trade.
Additional requirements include:
Heat pumps must use a Home Performance Contractor Network member.
Insulation must use an eligible HPCN insulation contractor.
Energy Savings Program upgrades must use an ESP-registered contractor.
Self-installations are not eligible.
Different contractor networks serve different programs. A contractor approved for one rebate pathway is not automatically registered for another.
Is an EnerGuide Evaluation Required?
An EnerGuide evaluation is not generally required for individual standard rebates such as insulation, windows, doors or the $300 Two Upgrade Bonus.
It may still be useful when:
The homeowner is planning several upgrades
Heat-loss priorities are unclear
Heating equipment needs to be resized
The project requires whole-home energy modelling
Another active program specifically requires an evaluation
Do not schedule an EnerGuide evaluation solely because an older article advertises the legacy Home Energy Improvement Bonus.
How to Apply for Home Renovation Rebates
1. Identify the Correct Program
Confirm the home’s primary heating fuel, utility provider, property type and household-income pathway.
2. Check Pre-Approval Requirements
The CleanBC Energy Savings Program and BC Hydro condo programs require approval before installation.
Most standard ground-oriented rebates are submitted after installation, but the individual requirements must still be checked first.
3. Select Eligible Equipment
Verify the exact product model and performance criteria before purchasing equipment.
4. Use the Required Contractor
Confirm that the contractor belongs to the network required by the selected program.
5. Keep Complete Documentation
The paid invoice should identify:
Property address
Contractor details
Installation date
Equipment manufacturer and model
Product performance information
Labour and equipment costs
Permit numbers where applicable
Proof of full payment
6. Apply Before the Deadline
Standard Home Renovation Rebate Program applications and supporting documents must generally be submitted within six months of the invoice date.
Can Different Rebates Be Combined?
Some upgrades can be combined with the $300 Two Upgrade Bonus.
However, the standard Home Renovation Rebate Program cannot normally be combined with the CleanBC Energy Savings Program or FortisBC income-qualified funding for the same upgrade.
Total rebate funding also cannot exceed the eligible paid project cost.
